Anna kournikova is one of the world's most recognized athletes. She was born on 7 June 1981 in Moscow, Russia. She started showing immense potential in tennis at an early age. She won her first tournament at age 14 and her first professional title at age 15. In 1997, she became second woman in Open era to reach semifinals of Wimbledon in her debut. Her good looks and signature braided blonde ponytail made her a fan favorite and eventually an off-court star.

According to Web site searches by Lycos users Anna kournikova was the most popular sports figure of 2000 and 2001. In 2000, she was one of five female tennis players named to Forbes Magazine Power 100. Anna Kournikova was also elected in 1998 People Magazine 50 Most Beautiful People list; she was one of only two athletes. She has won two Grand slam doubles titles: 2002 and 1999 Australian Open (w/Martina Hingis); But the singles title has eluded her.

Anna Kournikova has numerous singles wins over players ranked number one in the world: Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario. In 2003, readers of FHM magazine voted Anna the sexiest woman in the world. She had a small role (as a motel manager) in the 2000 film Me, Myself and Irene, starring Jim Carrey. She currently (2002-2005) dates Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias.
